FAA Licensing and Safety

Every pilot flying for Xizmo Media holds an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, and broadcast flights are planned around the same airspace rules that apply to any commercial aircraft. For events near stadiums, arenas or airports, we handle the airspace authorization and coordination before the crew arrives on site, not the morning of the shoot.

Live broadcast adds its own layer of risk beyond a standard commercial flight: a fixed air time, a live audience, and no ability to reshoot a missed cue. We plan for that by flying with a visual observer on every job, building a weather contingency into the schedule, and walking the physical location in advance to map out approach and departure paths that keep the aircraft clear of talent, crew and crowds.

Most of our live broadcast clients aren’t drone specialists, they’re show producers and technical directors who need one more camera position to work like the rest of the truck. We fit into that world instead of asking you to adapt to ours.

That starts with a technical call before the shoot: confirming your video format and downlink requirements, agreeing on a call sign for the pilot on comms, and building the flight into your rundown rather than treating it as a separate segment. On site, our pilot reports to your technical director or line producer.

Frequently Asked Questions About Live Broadcast Drone Services

Can a drone shot actually go out live on air?

Yes. Our feed routes into your truck the same way any other camera position does, so the director can cut to it live rather than cutting away to pre-recorded footage.

How far in advance do you need to book a live broadcast flight?

For a single segment, two to three weeks is usually enough to handle airspace authorization and a site walkthrough. Larger events with multiple flight windows or multi-day coverage need more lead time, so the earlier we’re looped in, the more flexible the plan can be.

Do your pilots work inside stadiums, arenas or other restricted airspace?

We coordinate FAA airspace authorizations and venue security in advance for these locations, and our pilots communicate directly with your production and any on-site safety officers during the flight.

What happens if the weather doesn’t cooperate on air day?

We build a weather contingency into every broadcast plan, including backup flight windows and, where the segment allows, ground-based alternatives, so a rained-out flight doesn’t leave you without a shot.

Can you integrate with our existing production truck and control room?

Yes. We match our downlink and video format to your truck’s existing setup and put our pilot on your comms system, so the drone functions as another camera position rather than a separate production.
