Xizmo Media has been flying drones over Manhattan since 2008, long before most production companies added aerial work to their service list. Our FAA Part 107 licensed pilots shoot week to week across Midtown, the Financial District, Hudson Yards and the Upper East and West Sides, working inside some of the most tightly controlled airspace in the country.
Xizmo Media was one of the first full-service production companies on the East Coast to add aerial cinematography to its lineup, and Manhattan has been a core market from day one. Our crews cover everything from live broadcast television and major motion picture sets to 360 VR aerial footage, carrying $5 million in liability insurance and the federal permits Manhattan shoots require.

Flying a Drone in Manhattan: Airspace, LAANC and NYC Permits
Manhattan sits inside some of the most restricted airspace in the United States. Much of the borough falls under controlled airspace tied to LaGuardia and Newark, plus active helicopter routes along both rivers, and the FAA layers in temporary flight restrictions around the UN, motorcades and major events with little notice.
Every commercial flight here needs LAANC authorization before the drone leaves the ground, and in the densest sections near Midtown and the Financial District that authorization can mean flying below rooftop height or working inside a specific altitude block by block. We hold current LAANC approvals and know which blocks clear automatically and which need a manual FAA request submitted days in advance.
