The Four Stages Behind Every Aerial Shoot in New York City

Every shoot moves through the same four stages, whether it’s one skyline frame or a multi-location real estate package.

1

Mapping the Shot List First

Before a drone leaves the ground, we go over what the photos need to show and when the light will make that possible, then plan camera angles and altitude against the specific address or landmark.

2

Clearing New York’s Airspace

Much of the city sits inside controlled airspace tied to LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark, so FAA authorization and any building or agency sign-off get sorted before we schedule a flight window.

3

Reading Wind and Air Traffic on Shoot Day

On shoot day we work around wind, sun position, and the air traffic patterns specific to that block, adjusting the flight plan on site instead of forcing the original plan to fit.

4

Color-Corrected Files Before Delivery

Every image is color-corrected and retouched before delivery, so the files you get back are ready to use in a listing, a press kit, or a campaign without another round of editing.

From Midtown’s Towers to Brooklyn’s Waterfront

New York reads differently from the air depending on the borough, and we plan the flight accordingly.

Manhattan’s Vertical Skyline

Midtown and the Financial District call for altitude and careful timing around the wind that funnels between towers near landmarks like One World Trade Center and the Empire State Building.

Brooklyn’s Waterfront and Bridges

DUMBO, Williamsburg, and the Brooklyn Bridge waterfront give a different kind of shot, low over the water with the Manhattan skyline as the backdrop instead of the subject.

Queens and the Airport Corridors

Long Island City and the neighborhoods near LaGuardia and JFK require the tightest coordination with air traffic control of anywhere we fly in the city.

FAA Part 107 Licensed, $5 Million Insured

Every pilot Xizmo Media sends up holds an FAA Part 107 remote pilot certificate, including a night operations waiver for after-dark skyline work, and every flight operates under a $5 million commercial insurance policy. We’ve been flying over New York since 2008, working as a full-service aerial photography company for real estate teams, brokers, and production crews who need the credentials on file before a shoot gets booked.

Three Kinds of Aerial Photography Jobs We Shoot Most

Most of what comes through the door falls into one of three categories.

Real Estate Listings

Brokers and developers need exterior and rooftop shots that show a building’s context, light exposure, and proximity to landmarks, the kind of image a ground-level listing photo can’t provide. For larger commercial listings, our real estate aerial photography team builds multi-angle packages sized for MLS and marketing decks.

Construction and Facade Progress

Owners and engineers use periodic aerial photos to document a building’s exterior or a job site’s progress over months, creating a dated visual record without putting anyone on a lift or scaffold.

Brand and Editorial Shoots

Agencies and photographers bring us in for campaign and editorial work that needs a rooftop-to-street descending shot or a wide establishing frame a ground crew can’t get on their own.

Photography is where most projects with Xizmo Media start, but it’s rarely where they end. Clients planning a product launch or a building opening often add drone light shows to the same event once they see what’s possible from the air. Call 1-917-410-6911 to schedule your shoot.

How long does it take to get the finished photos after the shoot?

It depends on the size of the package. A single-location real estate set usually turns around fastest, while multi-location or campaign shoots with heavier retouching take longer because of the editing involved.

How is a shoot priced?

Pricing is built around the shot list: how many locations, how much flight time, and how much retouching the final images need. We quote each project after a short call about what you’re trying to capture.

What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate on the scheduled day?

Wind, rain, and low visibility all affect image quality and flight safety, so we reschedule rather than fly in conditions that would compromise either one. We work with you to find the next available window.

What file formats do you deliver?

You’ll receive high-resolution, color-corrected JPEGs ready for print or web, with RAW files available on request for clients who want to do their own post-production.

Do I need to provide anything for you to fly at my location?

Just the address and a building or property contact who can sign off if one is needed. If the site sits in controlled airspace, we handle the FAA authorization directly and build the extra lead time into your schedule.

Do you shoot skyline photos at night?

Yes. Our pilots hold an FAA night operations waiver, which covers dusk and after-dark skyline and building-lit shoots that a daytime-only certificate wouldn’t allow.
